Modbus communication with an Airmaster controller.
Q: What do I need to establish Modbus communication with an Airmaster controller?
A: Follow the steps described below for the Airmaster controller you want to configure for Modbus communication.
Requirements
- Q1 controller.
- RS485 to serial converter. This device is used to convert the RS485 language of the controller into a serial communication for the PC.
- Program or device to send out modbus commands. This could for example be a PLC, or a simulation program. (Modbus master)
- Fieldbus list of the Airmaster Q1 controller. This document teaches you about what information is stored in which register, and how to interpret it.
Workflow
- Connect your RS485 to serial converter to the (configurable) RS485 communication port X04.
- Configure this communication port to be equally set up as the modbus master (e.g. the PLC).
- Go to P10 EQUIP settings 1.
- Scroll down to P10.09 (RS485 X04 CONFIG) and press the ENTER button.
- Set P10.09.01 to modbus slave
- Adjust the parameters below to match the parameters of the modbus master device.
- Insert the RS485 serial converter to your PC. Or generally speaking, establish a hardware connection to your modbus master device.
- When inserted into a PC, make sure that the serial connection is established, and that the correspondent COM's port is available.
- Configure the modbus master to match the parameters of the modbus slave. (Baudrate, stop bits, parity bit, data bits)
- Consult the fieldbuslist to learn about the registers.
