Kit generator tool & kit usage philosophy

ControlsStudio (CS) compatible software for Airmaster controllers are distributed in the form of a software kit (.kit extension). This kit contains all the required software to be able to program and use a controller, loaded by default settings. It also contains all required software to be able to customize the software kit in the CS environment. The available CS tools are to be used to apply the desired customization. Once everything is configured as desired, the processed files can be reassembled into 1 handy kit for redistribution or use.

A CS compatible software kit contains the following items by default.
  1. Controller menu (.cmt)
  2. Application file (.hex)
  3. Parameter Table (.pt)
  4. Translation (.utf8)
  5. Languague File (.bin)
  6. Font File (.sif)
Despite the fact that these files are listed individually above, it is not possible to treat these files separately (outside of CS). They should always be bundled and treated together in the form of a kit.

Opening a kit
  1. Click the 'OPEN' button in the 'file explorer' on the top left of the CS window.
    1. A pop-up window opens.
  2. Click the 'OPEN KIT' button.
  3. Navigate to the location where the software kit is stored using windows explorer.
  4. Double click the .kit fileto open it. OR Select the .kit file by clicking on it once, and click the 'open' button on the bottom right of the windows explorer window.
    1. The files are now loaded into the CS environment.
Saving a kit

When the customization has been completed, it is possible that there are now more files inside the CS File explorer than there were at the beginning. Of course, this is not a problem.
  1. Out of the CS home screen tools overview, navigate to the 'KIT generator' tool by clicking on its corresponding icon.
  2. Select the files from the left column that should be saved, or be part of the newly generated kit. A file can be selected by clicking on it.
  3. Move the files from the left column to the right column by clicking on the available arrows. In the middle, bottom of the CS window.
    1. At a minimum, the 6 default files (listed at the top) must be present to be able to save or generate a kit.
  4. When all desired files are listed in the left column, click on the 'Generate kit' icon to save or generate the kit.
  5. Navigate to the location where you want to save the kit by using the windows explorer pop-up window.
    1. At the bottom of the window, you have the ability to change the name of the kit.
    2. An orderly folder structure and clear naming practices are highly recommended.
    3. It is also advisable to always save the kits under a different name (possibly using the date) to avoid losing data and to always be able to fall back on previous configurations.
  6. Save the kit by clicking on the 'Save' icon on the bottom right of the windows explorer window.
When you save Individual files by clicking the 'save' button in individual tools (e.g.: parameter configuration tool), it will NOT result in the actual saving of this file. If you close CS after saving an individual file, you will lose the modifications. As mentioned earlier, the kit should always be saved as a whole to secure changes.

Updating a kit

A software kit has been created, based on a particular software version. For example: Q1EXAMPLE_E30. A feature has been implemented to this software, causing a new version (Q1EXAMPLE_E31) to be released. By using the update feature, it is possible to update the software kit and all its customized files to the latest available software version. This allows us keep using the kitfile we already have, but now based on the latest software version, including for example, the latest bugfixes or feature implementations.
  1. The old software kit has already been opened and is visible in the file explorer.
  2. Following the same procedure as above, open the latest software kit, based on the latest software edition.
    1. This kit will most likely only contain the default files alone.
  3. On the top, middle of the CS window, navigate back to the old software.
    1. When opening a different software kit, it automatically switches to this latestest software. To be able to see the files from the old software kit, the old software has to be selected.
  4. Out of the CS home screen tools overview, navigate to the 'KIT generator' tool by clicking on its corresponding icon.
  5. Move the files from the left column to the right column by clicking on the available arrows. In the middle, bottom of the CS window.
  6. Press the 'upgrade' slider icon, under the generate kit button to activate the upgrading ability.
    1. The software edition to which the kit will be updated is displayed under the slider.
    2. The upgrade slider becomes active.
  7. Click on the 'Generate kit' icon to save or generate the kit.
  9. Save the kit by clicking on the 'Save' icon on the bottom right of the windows explorer window.
    1. The kit has now been upgraded to be compatible with the newer software edition.
Software kits can only be updated to softwares with an identical name. For example, example1_E01 can be updated to example1_E02, but cannot be updated to examplewithadifferentname_E02.
